In this case, no news is good news! Well, somewhat I suppose...
Last summer I ended up placing second on my Creative Writing Project and First on my Star Spangled Food project! I got sent to the Ohio State Fair to compete with my cooking! Let me say while I didn't place or win anything special-- it was such an AWESOME experience!
And after selling Sugar Baby and Meg to Cedarside Farms I went on to sell Top Renegade Ranch Mary to Calico Patch Farm in PA! And Tara's Rowdy Kids Eric's Rebel and Rebel Angel went to a local home as pets and companions!
At the 2011 Sandusky County Fair we also did EXTREMELY well! Here's some results: Right off the bat at the 4-H show Riley helped me win Reserve Champion Division 3 Showman! At the pygmy show Billy Goat Co. Mystical Dawn easily won her class and Junior Champion! We went back out for Grand Champion Doe and without an ounce of hesitation he gave it to Dawn! Josie placed 5th in her class, Kellie placed 4th in hers, and I also got a third with Riley in Adv Pack! A doe I bred; Tara's Rowdy Kids Sparklin' Topaz, placed fifth in her class.
Open Class: Billy Goat Co. Leighanna (a doe I previously owned) won Sr Champion and Grand Champion and Billy Goat Co. Kellie won Reserve Sr and Reserve Grand!
So we had a pretty good fair year!
Since then, I've been nothing but busy with life... My Sophomore year of high school started up and so did my second year of Marching Band. Which, of course, meant football games. Proud to say I've maintained all A's and B's this school year! I also spent part of the winter Square Dancing at Ole Zim's.
Now, 4-H has started back up! I am on the Sandusky County Junior Fair Board and am also the Safety Officer for my 4-H club.
But, back to the goats... I didn't breed anyone for kids this year. I miss having kids around but right now, I'm glad to have what I do since this will be my last year with the goats :( I am sad, but I will be headed off to college soon and I know I will find wonderful homes for all my kids. Keeping up with them has just been so hard for just my mom and I. Especially since my Grandad passed away over a year ago. It's just not the same without him around the barn with the goats and I.
So, starting May 1st, I am starting my herd disposal.
I know I will be shedding many tears, but I still have the whole summer with most of them. It's definitely bittersweet for me.
Happy April everyone!
