Planned Breedings

Here are my breedings for this summer/fall! Should be a very exciting line up, in my opinion.

Bred to Swafford's Sunny Totally Wicked (Brown Pointed Caramel):
Billy Goat Co. Leighanna (brown pointed caramel; accidental breeding)
Cozy Corners Princess Lea (dark grey agouti)
K & J Pygmies Isabella (medium caramel w/ belly-band)
Springwater Farms Miss Karina (grey agouti)
TreeFrog Pygmies Sugar Baby (Light Caramel)

Bred to 3x Reserve Grand Champion Beech Creek Elite John Henry (Dark Grey Agouti):
Scar-Bar-O Ranch Ava (grey agouti)
Top Renegade Ranch Mary (Medium Caramel)

I have also worked out my spring and summer breedings for next year!

**Note** - Reservations will NOT be taken on Desert Suns American Style. All kids will be retained for my herd UNLESS she produces a buckling that would have to be wethered.

**Another note** - John Henry will be bred to quite a few of my doe's so I can hopefully retain a son, as he will be 5 this year. Perferrably a caramel or brown son.

As for spring kiddings this is what I will be having.

Lil's Little Kids Josie (Black) X 2xGCH Beech Creek Elite At-Apache (caramel)
Tara's Rowdy Kids Rosalie (Light Caramel X 3xRGCH Beech Creek Elite John Henry (Dark Grey)
Sycamore Creek Pygmies NutMeg (Brown pointed medium caramel) X 3xRGCH Beech Creek Elite John Henry (Dark Grey)

And last, but most certainly NOT least...the best breeding in the history of this farm is...****DRUMROLL****

DESERT SUNS AMERICAN STYLE (BELTED BLACK AGOUTI STRAIGHT FROM THE DESERT SUNS HERD) X
2xGCH BEECH CREEK ELITE AT-APACHE (CARAMEL)

All kids will be retained from this breeding. IF I decide to offer any kids from American Style in the future, they will very well be possibly some of the best kids in Ohio, because Linda Colville is an awesome breeder and has Champion goats nationwide. And it is a proven fact that Pache is a nice buck, seeing as how he's gotten 2 Grand Champions and 3 Reserve Grands from different NPGA judges (which is a compliment seeing as how he is a caramel).

Enjoy this! More info and pictures on my site.

Kid Explosion!

Well, shall I start from the beginning??

I could tell Kookie was close, she didn't completely finish her grain or her hay (which is NOT like her at all). While I was doing chores she was very restless. After chores I sat with her and watched her for a bit. A few pushes here and there. Then Ellie came so I went out to greet her and we both went into the barn and low and behold Kookie's water bubble was coming. Pretty soon I got BACK hooves coming out at me!!! She was having trouble to I gently pulled the legs out and out popped a beautiful light caramel BUCK (Kookie never had a caramel, a buck, or a kid without wattles). I had to quick break the sac and clean the mouth out and it was up and good pretty quick. Bout 10 minutes after I got the kid up and dried off and nursing, she pushed out another baby. a black agouti with a bellyband. Got him out of the sac and breathing. Was with them awhile and not long before they were up and about, nursing and all. I sat with them with Ellie for awhile (it was her first chance to see an actual delivery) before we went up to eat.

Came back checked on Sadie (nothing, she seemed close, I thought she'd go tonight or tomorrow). After awhile in with the we went to check on Sadie and low and behold. TWO TINY BABIES! I quick went in and checked. TWO DOES! Sadie has had 4 sets of buck/doe twins straight! And these are my first Wicked babies, which are simply BEAUTIFUL!

So now, I have a break before I start back up in Aug. I have three due then, all in the same week to boot. I just hope they dont all go in one day!

5th Anniversary!

Wow!! I just realized that yesterday, five years ago I brought Kookie home. Seems soo long ago that I got into goats. And to think -- I started with 2 and now only 5 years later I have about 27 or 28.

I'm just so overwelmed.

I love my goats dearly and could not imagine a day without them!

Slight Update on American Style

Well, seems like this year has flown by! Minus one thing, Desert Suns American Style, who was originally to arrive March 21. After our transporter backed out, Chrissy and I scrambled to find a way here to Ohio for our three precious does.

Which we succeeded in doing...We were supposed to have the does in PA by May 7th at the latest...Now it has been said that the girls won't even have been picked up by the transporter until after that. They are running behind so I don't even know when they will even be picked up. :(

Just a bit of an update...I am disappointed, but I'm glad that all three of our doe's will get here safely. Eventually.

Kidding Season!

Our kidding season has had it's up and downs so far, but we were lucky enough to have 4 live kids. :) All caramel! 1 light, 1 medium, 1 dark red, and 1 dark brown! All BEAUTIFUL doelings!

Tara's Rowdy Kids Herbrand Tool and Scar-Bar-O Ranch Ava produced a single light caramel doeling on 1/15 ~ Tara's Rowdy Kids Aurora.

Bari Patch George and Old Rock Ranch Venus produced triplets (2 bucks and 1 doe) but due to kidding complications on 2/25 - we were lucky to save the dark red caramel doeling ~ Tara's Rowdy Kids Georgie's Peach.

Bari Patch George and Tara's Rowdy Kids Sparklin' Jewel produced one brown caramel doeling and one dark caramel doeling unassisted on 3/30 ~ Tara's Rowdy Kids Sweet Divinity and Tara's Rowdy Kids Sparklin' Jewel.

Jachin Valley Mordecai and Lil's Little Kids Josie produced 2 dead babies on 4/3. These babies were very huge and I am shocked by the fact that she didn't have to have a c-section and had them on her own. I had fed her NO grain throughout pregnancy so obviously it was something with bloodlines. Josie's dam has never had a problem, nor has any does bred to her full brother (whom is a herdsire for Lucky U Farm, he's sired a total of 6 kids so far, including singles). I am just very VERY thankful that Josie made it through such a tramatic delivery. I will probably try to breed her one more time later on this year or maybe even next year. She is very special to me and I couldn't stand to loose her.

Have a few more does to finish up the year! K & J Pygmies Isabella is due anytime now to Jachin Valley Mordecai (which worries me greatly). After that we will have a break until June 10th when Kookie is due.

Hope all is well with everyone else and so far, a pretty decent year a few losses, but they were uncontrollable unfortunately. Even knowing that never makes the losses any easier, though. It's always sad to loose a life.
Fingers crossed that the season improves!

Sales List!

Attention!

We currectly have a dark caramel doeling available, Tara's Rowdy Kids Sparklin' Topaz. She is sired by one of the nicest bucks in our herd, brown caramel, Bari Patch George (out of Bari Patch Bunches of Honey and by PJ's Kids Buffalo) and out of (our very own first born doeling here! Medium caramel) Tara's Rowdy Kids Sparklin' Jewel ( out of Fellowship Farms Crystal and by Hass' Happy Herd Hidden Henry). She is a sweet, friendly little girl; she even has goat jewelry (aka wattles)! Should be a nice doe for 4-H and FFA. Her mom was a very easy first time kidder, had them all on her own! In fact, I didn't even notice her and her sister hiding behind her at first! I have two 1/2 sisters, 1 full sister, 1 cousin, and her mom; so I feel that I have enough of relatives to her. Not to mention, I am tight on space and need to sell some. Asking $350, $325 to a 4-H home.

Also expecting kids in April, June, and August. Our waitlist is a bit lengthy, but waiters don't always come through.

Contact me in you are interested in my little doe @ goatgals@gmail.com
or leave a comment on the blog if you'd like me to give you a call.

Sterotyping Pygmies

"I don't want a Pygmy because they will have kidding complications."

"I don't like Pygmies because they always have kidding problems."

"I could never own a Pygmy, especially since they never produce alot of milk!"

ALL of the above can be true. But mostly are generally NOT true. Most Pygmy Goats do NOT have troubles kidding if they are vaccinated and fed correctly throughout pregnancy. They generally do not have more problems than other breeds. But you must take very good care of the does during pregnancy. No more than 1 cup of grain a day, and no less than 1/4 of a cup. I generally like to give mine about 1/2 to 3/4 to ensure nice sized kids. Not to big to get stuck and not to small to be stillborn.

And the comment on production is falicious also. Pygmy Goats CAN produce alot of milk. Some do not. It is not the breed, it is the idividual goat.

It is also common knowledge that FULL blooded Pygmies can not be solid white, have blue eyes, or be naturally disbudded.

If anyone has any questions, contact me.
Otherwise, best of luck in finding you "perfect" pygmy.

Now for the good news!

Now for the good news! I am actually in a pretty good mood. For the most part...

Well, where should I begin? I will start with my personal favorite news. Which is hard, as I like all the news I have to share. Mhm, okay. :) I've made up my mind which will be shared first.

My new goats! I will be getting the following goats THIS Saturday! ROAD TRIP!
First we are heading down to Dry Run Aces to get Reserve Grand Champion Beech Creek Elite John Henry! Henry is a really handsome buck and he's JUST what I want! I am soo excited to get him home! :)

Then we will be stopping buy the remainder of Shiloh Hill's goats which includes some really impressive bloodlines:
Top Renegade Ranch Mary Lou (Medium Caramel Doe)
Springwater Farms Miss Karina (Medium Grey Doe)
Dry Run Acres Dexter (Dark Grey Agouti Wether)
Then there is Dooley a Swiss Marked, Unregistered, Nigerian Dwarf Wether!!!

So, this saturday will be a real long day for me! Thankfully my dad is willing to haul me around to get all these goats! Watch out Southern Ohio! Tara's Rowdy Kids will soon be coming to a town near YOU! Coming soon! LOL!

And Sparkle and Isabella have a really nice start to their udders! Josie is just confusing! I may have written down the wrong date. Could of been Oct 12 or 13. So I Josie still has a chance to give me George babies! Sparkle is bred to George and Isabella to Mo. Their legacy in my herd continues. :) It really is bittersweet, but I am glad to see their legacy continue on in my herd.

Well, that should be about it. Looking forward to getting John here to breed to a few of my girls. :)

Wish us luck on our cross state adventure! Heehee! The perks of being an only child!

Have a good night all and a HAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY!!!!

Starting all over - Deja Vu

You know....It's kind of funny. Not like the "Haha" funny but more like an unexpected, ironic funny.

I finally had my herd just the way I wanted it. Perfect to my liking, in my opinion. When everything suddenly seems to go wrong. First we loose George. That was just totally unexpected...I didn't see it coming. One day he was fine, the next morning he was dying.

For those of you who have never lost an animal, or one you've grown attached to, it's heartbreaking. Especially watching George. My sweet, stubborn, pain in the rear George. We tried everything we could. He wasn't bloated...He had no reason to go down. Up to date on wormings, Bo-Se, CD/T, everything. I can't even put it into words how much it killed me to see him just laying there. Leaving me. And once a goat decides to die, you can never change their minds. We have a Vet on their way out...A futile effort in the end. That one killed me, that loss. George was my boy and no one has no idea how much it HURTS. My animals are part of my life, an irreplaceable part of my heart...Leaving another place blank when they left. A place that their memory can only occupy.

Might as well hit me well I'm down.

Mordecai bloated. Vet came out, fixed him up and he was doing FABULOUS for about...6 days when I could instantly tell he wasn't himself. Got him up to our vet, who treated him for pneumonia immediately. They called that night saying he was doing great and we would be able to pick him up the next morning. I went to bed with a light heart and in a wonderful mood. My boy would be okay! Then again strikes deja vu. The Vet calls in the morning saying he was down and wouldn't get up. They gave him IVs, the whole nine yards I am told but in the end, once more, the effort was futile. The Vets wanted an autopsy done, which, of course, we went ahead with. Sure enough...pneumonia of the lung.

That loss hurt just as much.

Why, I ask myself everyday, why do I have to suffer? I take care of my animals health wise and I love them. There are PLENTY of people in this world that abuse their animals or don't feed them. Just this year 30 horses were seized from a woman that didn't take care of them and a good handful of dogs seized from a small puppy mill. The problem? Why am I the one to loose my animals? I give them everything they need plus some. They could have no better home. Whereas there are plenty of people out the who do not take care of their animals and they never loose an animal. How is that fair? I'd never wish for an animal to die. Never, but why am I the one to suffer? I just don't get it.

Anyway, it feels like I am starting all over now. Starting with getting a new buck and new does this weekend, and I will be bringing in a new brown buck and a new caramel buck the near future and then I will be done. Given no more unexpected deaths.

Sorry, not in the best of moods and felt like I had to explain what happened to my much loved boys. It just kills me every time I think about them. And I feel so guilty. I am lucky to have their offspring and genetics alive in my herd. Rest in piece my boys...

Surprise, Surprise!

Well, it appears that not only Venus is bred to George, but Josie will be as well!!! I am almost positive that she is bred to him. I had her *originally* bred to George as the same time as Venus, but I was almost SURE that she came back into heat but apparently not! She's got a nice sized udder there, hiding under all that hair! And no ligs! So...It's very likely she will hit Day 145 tomorrow along with her buddy Venus!!! :D

Guess I'd better move her into the kidding pen...

Starting Kidding Watch Again!

We are now waiting for our next doe to kid! Old Rock Ranch Venus is bred to Bari Patch George and is officially Day 141 today! She'll hit Day 145 this Friday!

This kidding will be a bittersweet one, as these will be the last registered kids by George, as he sadly passed away unexpectedly on February 9. He is sorely missed by all who met him.

As to this breeding...It was in demand before I even lost George. I plan on keeping a caramel buck or caramel doe, or both. Any others will be for sale.

Cross your fingers for an easy kidding and healthy kiddos!!!

The Goat "Code"!

The Doe's Secret Code of Honor

The doe's secret code of honor is as old as goats themselves and is ultimately the species best kept secret. No doe shall ever kid before its time. (Its time being determined by the following factors):

1- No kid shall be born until total chaos has been reached by all involved. Your owner's house must be a wreck, their family hungry and desperate for clean clothes, and their social life nonexistent.

2- "Midwives" must reach the babbling fool status before you kid out. Bloodshot eyes, tangled hair and the inability toform a sentence mean the time is getting close.

3- For every bell, beeper, camera or whistle they attach to you, kidding must be delayed by at least one day for each an audio monitor, one good yell per hour will keep things interesting.

4- If you hear the words, "She's nowhere near ready. She'll be fine while we're away for the weekend," Wait until they load the car, then begin pushing!

5- Owner stress must be at an all time high! If you are in the care of someone else, ten to fifteen phone calls a day is a sign you're getting close.

6- When you hear the words "I can't take it anymore!" wait at least three more days.

7 -You must keep this waiting game interesting. False alarms are mandatory! Little teasers such as looking at your stomach, pushing your food around in the bucket and then walking away from it, and nesting, are always good for a rise. Be creative and find new things to do to keep the adrenaline pumping in those who wait.

8- The honor of all goats is now in your hands. Use this time to avenge all of your barn mates. Think about your friend who had to wear that silly costume in front of those people. Hang onto that baby for another day. OH, they made him do tricks too! Three more days seems fair. Late feedings, the dreaded diet, bad haircuts, those awful wormings can also be avenged at this time.

9- If you have fulfilled all of the above and are still not sure when to have the kids, listen to the weather forecast on the radio that has been so generously provided by those who wait. Severe storm warning is what you're waiting for. In the heart of the storm jump into action! The power could go out and you could have the last laugh. You have a good chance of those who wait missing the whole thing while searching for a flashlight that works!

10- Make the most of your interrupted nights. Beg for food each time someone comes into the barn to check you. Your barn mates will love you as the extra goodies fall their way too.

Remember, this code of honor was designed to remind man of how truly special goats are. Do your best to reward those who wait with a beautiful doeling to carry on the Doe Code of Honor for the next generation of those who wait!

Baby Pictures!!!!

Was going through some baby pictures, after getting some new ones today! So I thought I'd compare them as babies to them now! :) Enjoy! :)

This is CyCy, along with sister Graci (sold) and momma PL, shortly after birth on 10-16-09. Her dad is Mo (aka Mordecai). CyCy is a brown agouti with a partial belly-band!

And this is a picture I took of CyCy today! At four months old!!

So cute, isn't she!?! I just love CyCy! She's a sweetie and her chocolate color is yummy! I guess I can forgive the fact that she has a big mouth! LOL! CyCy has AWESOME conformation, but always take HORRIBLE pictures!

Enjoy! :)

Expecting Febuary Kids!!

We are now in the home stretch for Old Rock Ranch Venus! Venus is bred to George and is due Feb 19! Down to less than 3 weeks! Whoo! We're going to make it guys! I promise! I am so eager for her to kid! She was 2008 Junior Champion Doe at Lorain County Fair, from before we got her.

I'm hoping for 2 does and 1 buck, but will be happy with one of each. But the most important thing is that everything goes OK.

Fingers crossed for an easy kidding!!!

---

Also, Tisie of KK Snowd'n picked up our Desert Farm girls today! Look for new pictures of American Style by tommorrow of her! :D

---

Rori is growing BIG and strong! She got disbudded today! I put her back with Ava afterwards and when I went to feed Ava, I couldn't find Rori. I looked and she was sound asleep in the hay feeder! She looked so gosh darn cute!!!!

---

Isabella and Josie are also looking quite big! And they both have the start of an udder. So I am thinking Josie's due in April and Isabella in March (?). Or maybe it is wishful thinking??? Who knows! I guess we'll have to wait and see...

---

Well, that may very well be it for my update. Unless you'd like to hear about my escapees. Yeah, I had a frustrating day! Will give ya the back story on that tomorrow...It's quite comical, but of course it wasn't at the time. ;)

Have a good night everyone! I am off to check goatfarmcentral.com for updates on my new girl! Plus I am exhausted! LOONG day!

New Doe Coming!!

I will be welcoming a brand new doe all the way from OR state come March! I am VERY excited about bringing this doe into my herd.

Desert Suns American Style!

Thank you Linda Colville for selling me this magnificent doe. This girl has a dynamic pedigree and her dam has produced 17 kids (earning her +!) and just got her first NPGA ribbon (Res. Senior Champion) at age 7 and 1/2! And her sire is a GORGEOUS, and I mean GORGEOUS, dark caramel buck!!! And a BIG thanks to Tisie of KK Snowd'n Acres (Nigerian Dairy Goat farmer) since she will be picking her up for me! And to Amanda of Quaking Canopy for transporting her ALL the way across the Country! I can't thank you enough!

A good friend of mine is also getting 2 Desert Suns does. One being Desert Suns Bo'Derrick (Dark Caramel!!!), whom will be bred to one of my bucks for a kid back trade, and Desert Suns Laci Illusions! Congrats Chrissy! You better bet I want a doe from Ricki!

My dream of owning a Desert Farms doe is FINALLY coming true! I can't wait to get America into the show ring here. Can you say PGCH???? I sure can! :D

My "Surprise"!

I honestly didn't think Ava would do as I said. I was saying all week she'd kid on Friday...And what does she do?? Prove me right!

Anyway so I walk in to check Ava and Venus and what do I see? A little white blob! I ran out and hollered at my parents to come.

So I go back in there, she had JUST had the kid before we got there. And it mostly dried off and was JUST starting to pass the placenta. Perfect! Completely un-assisted! :)

So I go over and whipe the kid off a bit more, still a little wet. And I lift the tail to check and it's a...

GIRL!!! My doe streak is continuing!

So...without further ado the first 2010 kid here...Tara's Rowdy Kids Crystal's Aurora! Little Miss Rori is SPOILED rotten! I kept going out to hold her today! I am deeply in LOVE!

Ava's on Day 145!

Ava hit Day 145 today! I don't *think* she will kid soon however. She has a tiny udder and doesn't look too big...So I think a single. Which is fine by me! :)

I'll keep y'all updated!

Snow goats! :)

We've got some snow! Hoping for a delay tomorrow so I don't have to take that algebra exam (EW, I know!)

The goats are all doing well! They don't know what exactly to think of this white stuff! LOL! You should've seen my spring kids. They were "BAAAAAAH"ing at the top of their lungs as if saying "Mom, what the heck is this yucky stuff on the ground! It's cold and wet and EWWWW!!!" Anyone who has goats KNOW how much they hate, hate, hate to get their feet wet! Haha!

Here's what Meg thought about it...:

It was quite comical. She was NOT happy with me at all! :) But pretty soon they got over it:

And Ava and Herbie are due to have their babies in: 5 days! I am so excited! First kids of 2010! Hoping, so badly, for a doe kid(s) since Herbie will be moving onto his new home later this month! Because if I do get one (hopefully a caramel one!!!) it will be retained! :D

Then Venus and George due in Febuary...And that will be all until April (or possibly May).

So check back...I'll check on Ava tomorrow and give y'all a quick update!

Have a great Wednesday!
